Golf |
In Tandil, there are two 18-hole golf courses. One has been inaugurated recently, the Valle Escondido Golf Club, and the other is the Tandil Golf Club. Both are considered among the most important of Argentina due to the layout of its holes and the wonderful panoramic views.
Valle Escondido Golf Club
Situated among the Tandil sierras, in a privileged place, Valle Escondido is a golf resort which serves as the perfect excuse for walking through paradise.
The project started in 1999 and the complex was designed by the engineer Marcos Capdepont and inaugurated on April 20th, 2002.
The course bears an American-English style, with much movement in its fairways and its greens.
The landscape makes use of the natural rainfall water courses through small pools which represent hazards in almost 70% of the holes, enhancing the beauty in each stroke.
The hillsides count with a beautiful division into lots which allows viewing the entire course from the wonderful buildings situated there. From some of these mansions, you can see the complete 18-hole course, making this wonderful golf course almost unique in its kind.

Its aim is to preserve species which run a serious risk of extinction. It is a 371-acre area, where you will discover different animal species such as llamas, guanacos, pumas and foxes (some are kept in a cage) and exotic species such as wild boars, deers and European hares. Independencia Park
It was donated by the Italian community for the city’s centennial. You get to this beautiful hill (289 masl) through a romantic-style porch and an asphalted road that reaches to the top, where a Moorish castle stands with the cannons of the old “fort”. Afforested with conifers and Italian gardens, it offers a series of beautiful viewpoints.
Once you cross the porch, the road goes to the left, up to the hill, among the pleasant scent of the pine grove, you get to an area of level ground, where the Moorish castle stands, a donation of the Spanish community, due to the city’s centennial.
At night, this panoramic spot offers an amazing view of the city.
Moorish Castle – Independencia Fort
It is situated at 1000 m from the place where the fort which gave origin to the city was situated. It is a Moorish castle donated in 1923 by the Spanish community.
Museum of Independencia Fort
It presents a wide collection of evidences of Tandil’s history. From utensils and Indian weapons to the first jet plane of the world.
“Animas” Sierra
This is the highest sierra that surrounds the city (480 masl). You get a wonderful view from its summit.
The Animas Sierra consists of a group of singular hills that enclose a history tinged with legend.
The sierra is built by numerous stony precambric blocks. According to the legend, the sierra takes its name from the “ánimas en pena” (in English, “souls in purgatory”), as the spirits of the dead, who suffered injustices during their lifetime, wander about the fields until the living cast out the spell which has turned them fearsome. These spirits appeared as “ghost lights” or “will-o-the-wisp”. Besides, it is said that one night someone saw white, yellow and red lights as if it were dancing from stone to stone. Near the top, over the south slope, you will find the Ánimas cave. Around the cave, there are long dry stone walls and the remains of temporary houses of some cowboys from the 18th century and other buildings.
You may spend the day in this sierra and discover all the stories and legends it bears.
Cerrito Del Libertador
This is a little hill situated in the city, in honor to the General José de San Martín.
Martín Fierro Amphitheater
It is situated on the right of the Independencia Park porch. It is a traditional stage. There is a cava produced by the granite extraction. Over the stunning vertical wall, you will find the most important scenes of the Christian Passion during Easter time. This reproduction has been on stage from 1948.
Gastronomy
There are several restaurants that offer international as well as local specialties. Regional “picadas” (snacks) with homemade beer and wines. Also meals on wheels. Natural aliments based on soya and wholemeal flour, mixed grill and homemade pasta, pizza, delicious meat pies and many more specialties which are part of the wide culinary proposals Tandil offers. |
