Tourism in the area |
It is the most important city of Argentina. It was a business center in the colonial period as it had the most important port with access to the Atlantic Ocean and the European boats arrived to its coasts.
Today it is still a business and tourism international center. Year by year, many tourists from all over the world arrive to Buenos Aires to discover its typical neighborhoods.
Peatonal San Martín (San Martín Pedestrian Street)
This is a pedestrian street full of stores of different types. It comprises seven blocks, between the coast and the Cathedral, from Buenos Aires St. to Bartolomé Mitre St. There are several stores, restaurants, coffee shops and pavement artists.
La Rambla (the promenade)
It extends from Bristol beach to “Cabo Corrientes” (Cape Corrientes).
It borders the beach passing by the traditional sculpture of the two seals, a work by the sculptor Fioravanti, situated at both sides of the wide staircases that lead to the beach itself.
Along “La Rambla” there are many restaurants and coffee shops, filled with tables where the tourist may have lunch under parasols or taste delicious snacks. This is one of the most traditional and frequented spots of Mar del Plata.

From the terraces of this place, a building in a medieval style, all throughout the year, you will enjoy a wonderful view of the sea and the surroundings.
The building was donated to the city by Ernesto Tornquist and it was inaugurated in 1904. From there on, the building has suffered many modifications.
