Travel to Peninsula de Valdes.
Wild,
violent and beautiful…
discover how life throbs…
|
| ................................................................ |
Declared the national capital
of diving, its seaside resorts are the ideal
settings for the practice of numerous water
sports and underwater activities.
Its coasts are, in the whale season (from June
to December), incredible natural viewpoints.
During the day, populations of Southern right
whales (ballena franca austral) can be observed
and in the night their sounds liven up the beaches,
dunes and hills.
These characteristics, together with the wide
variety of fauna, make up a unique show for
the human eye and ear. From the coast you can
see seals, sea lions and elephants. And in the
interior of the peninsula you can find South
American ostriches, guanacos, maras and a wide
diversity of birds: 181 species, including the
Antarctica pigeon.
Sea lovers will find in this mirror of the Atlantic
Ocean a blue so pure and crystal-clear that
will hypnotize you as much as the singing of
the whales.

Puerto Madryn
Puerto Madryn is located on the eastern cost of
Chubut Province. It faces the blue waters of the
Golfo Nuevo, which is formed by Península
Valdés and Punta Ninfas.
The city is surrounded by dunes and hills and
has a long boulevard cost and a beautiful avenue
that make it a modern city.
You can walk along the coast avenue and visit
the port facilities and admire the calm and quiet
waters of the gulf. These features, along with
the variety of fauna, make this place an ideal
center for subaquatic sports enthusiasts, specially
the scuba divers. Because of this characteristic,
Puerto Madryn is considered to be the Argentine
capital of subaquatic activities.
Valdes Peninsula
The Valdes Peninsula is along the Atlantic cost
in Chubut Province.
The major part of the peninsula is infertile land
with some salt lakes.
The peninsula is an important natural reserve
and was named a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO.
In the coast you can sea lions, marine mammals,
fur seals and elephant seals. In Golfo Nuevo and
Golfo San José you may find southern right
whales that come to the peninsula between May
and December for mating and giving birth, due
to the fact that the water in the gulf is quieter
and warmer than in the open sea. There can be
found orcas off the coast, in the open sea off
the peninsula. You can hire a boat ride to be
nearer the whales.
In the peninsula interior you can find ñandúes,
maras and guanacos and a wide diversity of birds:
181 bird species, including the Antarctic Pigeon.
One of the main attractions is the Caleta Valdés,
composed of a particular environment and a variety
of fauna. It’s a quiet and calm long natural
pond of water that reaches a depth of 13 meters
and has an opening that shapes a canal where the
water enters. There are a number of species including
Sea Elephants, Magellan Penguins and Sea Wolves.
